Peter teaches very well in tutorial sessions and is able to explain lots of difficult and confusing concepts in simple words or metaphors. Peter seems to be extremely passionate towards teaching. His explanations are clear and clears up a lot of confusion towards some of the more complicated concepts. Also does ACTUAL demo instead of only reading the slides, which is a rare trait. They say it is way easier to look at the bad than the good. The TA is very enthusiastic and he is able to explain concepts in lessons very well. He also gave very clear instructions for the programming assignments. In particular, he wrote a simple website for PA1 that included a code editor together with videos to explain the code, which is very impressive. I think it's rare to find TAs with such passion in HKUST.

What was good about Peter?

  1. During lecture time, Peter is always actively answering our questions, which help us to catch up in class and eliminate our questions immediately

  1. There really isn't much for Peter to improve; he has done all that is required for him from the students.

  7. If possible, the TA could be more quicker in answering the doubts during the class, then that would be great.
  8. Maybe some praise for students who answer questions before TA could answer. Something like: "xxx is correct, blah blah blah". This might encourage some students think to help each other (which can consolidate their understanding)and also prevents chat from getting clogged with the an answer that has already been answered previously. Other than that, TA is doing great
  9. Sometimes the time of entering to the zoom meeting of the lab is quite long, which maybe can be improved.

  1. During the lab he would aid students with the first part, but the second part we are on our own to solve the issue.
  2. Have more TAs, sometimes students have to wait for a long time to ask questions or ask for checking of Labs
  3. He can prepare more and more examples for lab work or assignments. It is because this is the first time that we learn to write codes. While some codes are difficult to understand and we need a lot of examples. And we are not sure whether the codes written by us are right or not.

What was good about Peter?

  1. He explained the lab very clearly. And he raised my interest in doing the lab. For example, in the last lab, he showed a lot of music tracks, like Let it go, Animal Crossing song. It made the lab more interesting. The pre recorded video by Peter is really good, very detailed and easy to follow helped me a lot in this course His presentation is easy to listen as well
  2. Again, one of the best TAs during my study in HKUST. He speaks clearly and loudly, such that people would hardly fall asleep during the lab (haha). Also, a brand new way of asking questions online (via sli.do) encourages me to ask more questions regarding the lab rather than raising hands in front of 60+ people in the lab.
  3. He really arouse my interest in doing and going to the lab even if it was a 9am class. He tells jokes and it was quite fun. I learnt and understand more than in the lecture and he explained everything in details and I really appreciate that. He also answer my questions and give me a useful answer.
  4. He explains clearly in the lab. Besides,He always reminds us to upload the file and check the marking scheme before leaving. This helps us get higher marks in the lab and avoid losing the file. He sometimes also tells jokes in the lab which make the lab more interesting
  5. He explains everything in details and is very helpful. He is willing to offer you help when you have any questions. I like how he reminds us some important issues every time and he did really concern about whether we understand the lab work or not

  1. Attitude may be potentially more serious instead of being a troll, but this may be a good thing to reduce pressure of coding for students
  2. Sometimes he spent too much time with the easy part, and then rushed on the most complex parts of the labs.

  4. Maybe can open more time slots for asking questions face to face cause sometimes email might not be the best way to explain things
  5. Give more help when students are answering questions
  6. He can speed up his voice a little bit.
  7. The teaching speed sometimes can be faster.
  8. Do not include bonus parts in lab. This is unfair to students who are new to VBA.
